Carrowholly: I was surveying my IWeBS area when I noticed what I thought was three Greenshank at 200m approx. when I focused on the birds one was a greenshank and the other two caught me by surprise with the striking colour of their legs. The birds were walking in a well grazed field so their legs were entirely visible and I could compare the two yellowlegs to the greenshank. Their bills were slightly up turned and streaking on their breast, which when I consulted my book (never haven seen a yellowlegs) led me to the conclusion of Greater yellowlegs. I tried to get a photo but just with my ph through the scope but with no success. While I was attempting that the 3 birds took flight and I lost sight of them. There is a small turlough at the end of the field where they may have landed but I was unable to view them again.
