Sincere apologies for the very late report!
On 29 August 2018 (yes, almost 14 months ago - sorry), I observed a juvenile Goshawk (Accipiter gentilis) flying and then soaring quite low above Wexford town, Co. Wexford. I had great views in excellent light conditions for several minutes through my Leica 7x42 binoculars and am 100% certain of the identification - I have many years of field experience of hundreds of Goshawk and tens of thousands of Sparrowhawk.
Unfortunately, I had no camera with me but captured a couple of images with my Samsung S9+ mobile phone. Apologies for the poor quality but one image shows the unique silhouette quite neatly and the other provides size comparison with a small group of worried Starling that were flying around closeby.
I intended to submit the report at the time but was rather busy and then forgot about it. In fact, I didn't realise how uncommon this species is in Ireland and I've just re-found the images on my harddrive so thought you may still be interested in receiving details of the observation.
