I had the pleasure of watching a woodpecker drumming in a large and old beech tree in our garden in Kilternan Co. Dublin Easter Monday. He remained in the area moving through trees for 15-20 minutes and moving further away could still be heard, overall through the course of 30 minutes or so.
The following day he (or another) could be heard again but in the distance. Fantastic to have witnessed this rare bird in Ireland and hope it continues to have the right habitat to encourage a healthy and sustainable population.
