Can't believe this but I've just seen a white tailed eagle near Mullingar in Westmeath. It was standing in a field overlooking a pond with ducks. Thought it was a large dog initially. About 200m away. It took off and without doubt it was the largest bird I have ever seen flying, anywhere in the world. I'd estimate a wingspan of 2.5m!
Tail was snow white as it flew away from me with long sweeping wing motions. I got a blurry photo, attached below.
