Comments : A few shots of a first-year Yellow-legged Gull I had with a flock of around 40 Herring and Lesser Black-backed Gulls near the roundabout about 3km north of Enniscorthy, Wexford, where the N11 and N80 meet. Given that all the first-year gulls were tatty, with a mixture of freshly moulted and heavily worn, bleached plumage, this bird did not stand out as much as it might have a few months ago. My attention was initially attracted by its decidedly large-headed, bulky appearance (recalling a Great Black-backed Gull) and more particularly its characteristic 'belligerent' behaviour, wandering through the flock and occasionally lunging at other gulls, for no apparent reason. After a little while the flock took off and flew upriver...
